Ramadan is a sacred month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community for Muslims worldwide. It is a time of increased charity and compassion, where the blessed are encouraged to share with those less fortunate. However, many impoverished families across Sri Lanka struggle to observe this holy month with dignity. They lack the resources to break their fast with nutritious meals, purchase new clothes for Eid celebrations, or participate fully in communal worship and charity. For these vulnerable families, Ramadan becomes a time of additional hardship rather than spiritual renewal and joy.
The EverCare Ramadan Project provides comprehensive support to poor and needy families during the holy month. Our program distributes essential food packages containing rice, lentils, dates, cooking oil, milk powder, sugar, and other staples needed to prepare wholesome iftar and suhoor meals. We also provide Eid gift packages including new clothing for children, prayer mats, and modest financial assistance to help families celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with dignity. Beyond material support, we organize community iftar gatherings that bring together beneficiaries, donors, and volunteers, fostering a spirit of unity and shared humanity that embodies the true essence of Ramadan.
Our team works year-round to identify and verify families facing severe economic hardship, including widows, orphans, elderly individuals, disabled persons, and daily wage workers who struggle to meet basic needs. We partner with local mosques, community leaders, and social welfare organizations to ensure assistance reaches the most deserving recipients across multiple districts including Colombo, Galle, Batticaloa, and Ampara. Last Ramadan, we supported 850 families with food packages and provided Eid gifts to over 1,200 children. The gratitude and relief expressed by these families reinforces our commitment to ensuring no one suffers hunger or exclusion during this blessed month.
